Galaxy of the Stars: High School show choir competition program.

In 2017 and 2018, I volunteered as the Marketing & PR Chair for Millard North High School’s Show Choir. The show choir competition relies on a program that can be sold during the all-day competition that serves as a fundraiser.

With my graphic design experience, I thought this would be a great way to give back to the community.

Solution: Create a high-quality, color competition program that has all of the information a show choir audience member would want: images of the different show choir teams, theme or song selection, director information, advertisements, and judges.

Narrative: The project consisted of collaboration with multiple high school show choir directors, printer, advertisers, Galaxy of the Stars chairpersons and photographer vendors.

With a tight deadline, it was my responsibility to manage the assets and effectively layout each page. The final program consisted of 40 pages.

I also handled the advertising sales. Using MailChimp, I created an email campaign that solicited prospective advertisers in the Omaha community to include: insurance agents, real estate agents, local bar and grills, dance boutique, etc. Sold advertising included procuring artwork to be used in the program.

I held the Marketing & PR Chair for 2 years. The 2018 program raised $3000 in program advertising. Our print cost was $1000. A $2000 profit is considerable considering most show choir competition programs are lucky to pull in enough money to cover the cost of printing!
