Omaha Steaks
Narrative: Omaha Steaks, is a retailer of premium beef, seafood, and food gifts. The company is named after the city it was founded in, and its headquarters location, Omaha, Nebraska. I joined their Omaha Creative Group as a graphic designer to design their mail-order collateral.
The hardest part for me, working for Omaha Steaks, was not being able to write my own copy for the content I was creating. For just a few lines and a very limited character count, graphic designers could not supply the copy for the marketing piece they were laying out. With only two copywriters, this often led to a bottleneck.
The experience taught me about food photography. I now know what a food stylist is! If you look closely at one of the pieces you might see some hands. My daughter and I got to be hand models for one of the photography shoots.
Scope: Each month multiple mail-order campaigns take place that includes a full-color product brochure, envelope, inserts and an order form. The campaigns are assigned to a graphic designer and it’s their responsibility to work with the marketing specialist, copywriter, production manager and printer to update product offering, pricing and copy. All while adhering to a deadline.
